The Ferrari 250 GT SWB actually was a shorter, lighter and more powerful version of its predecessor, the 250 GT LWB.
During the years of 1960 and 1961 (always counting with very quick drivers), it contested in a big amount of races in direct competence in its category with Aston Martin and Chevrolet. We can highlight its victories in Gran Turismo from ’60 and ’61 in the 24 hours of Le Mans, along with the absolute vitories of Stirling Moss with the car from Rob Walker’s racing team in Silverstone, Brand Hatch, Goodwood and Nassau, all of them in 1961.
The reference CJ22 will be the only SWB which will have bumpers. In the RTR version there will be the option to paint it in “street red” or in deep blue with decoration from the vehicle which achieved the fourth position in the scratch and first position in Gran Turismo in the 24 hours of Le Mans from 1960 with F. Tavano and “Loustel” driving.
However its sporting life was short, since the announcement of several competitors, specially Jaguar with its E-Type Lightweight, made that in Maranello they took the deccision to build a car even more competitive, the fantastic Ferrari 250 GTO. It is told about this model that they counted the units of the SWB in order to achieve the minimun amounts of production the Federation demanded and confer it the “O” from “Omologato”, thought both models barely had something in common.
Finally, the 250 GT SWB has the personality, the beauty and the sporting career enought to have been chosen as a Slot Classic’s model.
